Myofascial Release is a technique that is performed without oil. It can be incorporated with other massage therapy techniques into a treatment plan. It is especially helpful for postural alignment, and to increase the pliability of tissues that have lost their flexibility, such as scar tissue or tissue that has undergone some sort of trauma, or repetitive strain. It is effective in treating various conditions such as:
- Headaches
- Muscle pain and spasms
- Chronic back and neck pain
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Sciatica
- Breathing difficulties
- Sensations such as numbness and tingling
- Poor posture and reduced flexibility
- Arthritic conditions
- Sports injuries
- And others...
So what is fascia, or myofascia?
Fascia is the dense tough tissue that surrounds and covers all your muscles, blood vessels, nerves, organs and bones. Usually fascia is relaxed and soft, it has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When you experience physical trauma or inflammation the fascia loses is pliability. Trauma, such as a fall or whiplash, surgery or habitual poor posture can have a cumulative effect over time, leading the tissue to become less flexible, causing restrictions throughout the body. Sometimes the restrictions end up far away from the source of the original problem.
